Bug Reporter Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 22, 2026
Bug Reporter is a browser extension for capturing bug reports. It has no servers of its own and collects no analytics. This policy explains what the extension handles and where that data goes.
What the extension records
While a web page is open, the extension keeps a short, rolling history in that page's memory:
- console messages and JavaScript errors (most recent 500),
- fetch/XHR requests and failed image, script and stylesheet loads: method, URL, status and timing (most recent 300); request and response bodies are not recorded,
- user actions, used to build "steps to reproduce" (most recent 100): which button or link was clicked, which field was typed in (by its label), which
<select>option or checkbox state was chosen, and page navigations.
Values typed into fields are never recorded. The history is discarded when the page is closed or reloaded, unless you capture a report.
When you capture a report
When you click Capture screenshot, Full page or Record video, or use the keyboard shortcuts, the extension:
- takes a screenshot or screen recording of the current tab,
- copies the history above,
- notes browser details (browser and OS version, viewport and screen size, language, timezone, the page's URL and title).
Reports are stored only on your device, using the browser's extension storage and IndexedDB. The 20 most recent reports are kept, and older ones are deleted automatically. You can delete any report from the popup, and uninstalling the extension deletes them all.
Before sharing, you can review every section, exclude any of them, and blur parts of the screenshot.
When data leaves your device
Only when you choose to:
- Download / copy: the report is saved to your computer or clipboard. Where it goes from there is up to you.
- File issue: if you connected Linear, Jira or GitHub in Settings, the report (title, description, enabled sections, screenshot, and for Linear and Jira the HTML report file) is sent directly from your browser to that service, using the access token you provided. It is subject to that service's privacy policy.
Access tokens for these services are stored in the extension's local storage on your device. They are sent only to the service they belong to.
The extension does not sell, share or transfer data to anyone else, and does not use it for advertising, creditworthiness or any purpose unrelated to bug reporting.
Permissions
- Access to all websites: so the recorder can run from the moment a page loads (otherwise errors that happen before you open the extension would be missed), and so reports can be sent to the issue tracker you choose.
- Scripting: to read the recorder's history and page details when you capture.
- Tab capture & offscreen documents: to record a video of the tab when you click Record video.
- Storage & unlimited storage: to keep reports and screen recordings on your device.
